THE PROCESS
HOW IT'S MADE
  • Dmitry JD Juravlev
    Art Director @ CAMERAPTOR
The client accepted our sketch, but made some reasonable corrections:

Ujet has a speed limit up to 45 kilometers per hour, so it can't be used on highways. In addition, the marketing specialists suggested to show the product at the city center, not in the outskirts as on our first sketch. We also changed the angle of the camera to show the character in a more heroic pose.

So we made all the changes while we were working on the 3D model...

PROJECT STORY
Unfortunately, the shooting of the video was canceled two weeks before the start. Shareholders of the Ujet decided to change the marketing strategy for the upcoming season...
  • Daniel Korkhov
Chief Sales & Marketing Office @ UJET
The experience of working with Cameraptor crew on the inception and development of the CYBERPUNK Ujet One visual and written narrative was a journey in itself.

The highly skilled creative and art director as well as screenwriters were fully engaged and perfectly captured the essence of the brand and it's product.

The process from start of the project up untill the finilization of the script was as much technical as visual and more importantly inspiration for our team.
  • Voogie
Creative Producer & Director @ CAMERAPTOR
At first, our concept was approved by the client, so we went through a full cycle of pre-production process. Cameraptor team scouted locations, developed production timings and made all necessary organizational work...

Despite the cancellation of the shooting we were happy to collaborate with the UJET team and do this mindblowing creative project.

Next part of the presentation will not show you the references of clothing, locations, makeup, music, casting and other important technical solutions, as we consider this information is redundant for online publication. Some ideas should be hidden from the public domain within the framework of commercial secrecy.

But with the permission of UJET we publish a scenario of commercial, which will never ever be filmed, to demonstrate our approach to work:

KEY VISUAL TECHNIQUES
1
NEON CITIES
Our video is about the future, not the past, so we decided to focus on the modern architecture of European cities and ignore trite historical attractions.

Imagine London, Rotterdam and Milan cities in the neon style of the future
2
GLITCHING
Various glitching and distorted 3D objects appear on the screen and in space.
3
CUTS-IN
Lot's of CG cuts and 3D titles
4
CONTRE-JOUR PROJECTIONS
Additional visual effects to show off our actors and Ujet.
5
MACRO CLOSEUP SHOTS
Extra-close shots. Wide-angle macro-lens with the slo-mo effect to show off the product.
6
DYNAMIC SHOTS
Video was supposed to be very dynamic and full of motion.
7
LIGHT SPRAY
During the night shoot, we were planning to use light spray to highlight some of the objects in the city
8
POV CAMERA & FPV DRONE
Some of the footage was supposed to be filmed from the hero perspective on a special POV Camera rig developed by our team.

We were planning to shot action footage with a racing drone that can do amazing tricks in the air.

SCRIPT

1.1

Milan of the future. Civil twilight has thickened over the city, in the distance a strange view of skyscrapers can be seen.

The camera slowly drifts forward, capturing a cityscape, filled with futuristic buildings and neon signs ... "

REFERENCE

1.2

Suddenly, the camera rotates 180 degrees and begins to fall, sliding along a high-rise building while rapidly approaching the ground.

Ahead (below) a road can be seen, along which we see the lone figure of a curly-haired girl riding a scooter outfitted with orbital wheels ...

Voice-over:
— "The future...."

Intense fast cuts of close-ups of scooter parts during unpacking:

A man's hands skillfully install the battery, snap mechanisms, press buttons, etc.

3

POV: A man, sitting on a scooter, holds an iPhone in his hand with the UJET app turned on.

After tapping on the screen, he nimbly throws the phone in the air, spinning it and then catches it, and then installs it into the handlebar smartphone mount.

Voice-over:
— "It literally fits in your hand"

*FULL CG: The camera turns 90 degrees, and we find ourselves inside a luminous tunnel consisting of UJET wheels.

Having flown through it, we land on top of a hill, which, like an ocean wave, increases in size, as if gaining strength in order to collapse back down.

Voice-over:
— "Sparks the imagination"
REFERENCE
5.2

The shot widens, and now hands of the main character appear in the frame, holding on the handlebar, where a dashboard with glowing lights can be seen.

5.3

*FULL CG \ POV

Gliding down the road, we observe how the neon city in front of us curls into a spiral, and the speedometer reading reaches its maximum ...

Having accelerated to an incredible speed, we slide down from the mountain like a surfer, loop vertically and then again fall into the tunnel made of wheels.

The shot narrows, and now we see flashes of neon lights and the rings of tunnel, at the end of which, a bridge flooded with daylight comes into view ...

REFERENCE
6

*Composite of transition from CG to live-action

Upon leaving the tunnel, we ride onto an amazing cable bridge, we note a beautiful morning landscape...

*During movement from wide shot to the close-up - different characters and cities.

The scene ends on the face of a young man whose hair is strangely standing on end and to one side.

13

The camera sharply zooms out in the style of old Chinese action-fighters and it is revealed that the young man is hanging on a lamppost in a strange pose.

In the style of a professional freerunner, he jumps down, performing a roll and somersault. (The camera remains rotated 90 degrees to one side)

Voice-over:

21.2

POV: Holding an iPad with an image of a finished, photorealistic UJET ONE, the character moves his hands down to reveal exactly the same shot in reality.

Scooter with a girl riding it, moves at great speed directly towards the character (to the camera). Instead of dodging out of the way, he boldly starts running towards the oncoming scooter.

Voice-over:
— "Starting with myself..."
22

REFERENCE
23

Close-up of UJET performing a Stoppie.

The girl jumps off the scooter.. A strange luminous heel (or sneaker) is visible through the wheel rim.

The camera zooms in to the wheel, and now we can see the street. A glitch occurs, day changes to night, one street replaces the previous one ...

Voice-over:
— I'm more than taking a step to the future
24

The camera flies forward along a neon-filled street, and UJET ONE appears ahead, transforming/appearing part by part.
